Prayer for the United States of America
Psalm 108:1-5, Isaiah 1
Reflections of the Heart:
The United States of America is called a great nation; in our freedom let us not forget the Lord. Let us put our trust in God alone and not in ourselves. For blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord and the people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance. Psalm 33:12
Father, Your word is true and we can trust everything that You do. You love whatever is just and good. Your unfailing love fills the earth. You just spoke and the heavens were created, you breathed the word and all of the stars were born. You assigned boundaries to the seas and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs. Let the whole world fear You and let everyone stand in awe of You! Father, we thank You for blessing our country. Thank You for honoring our prayers as a nation and extending Your mercy toward us. Thank You for protecting our borders.
We know that the nation whose God is the Lord is blessed, so we declare today that the United States is a nation that worships the living God. We confess that we are a nation that will love You, Lord, with all of our hearts, souls, strength, and minds. We will love our neighbors like we love ourselves. We declare that we are a nation that trusts in You, Lord and practices good works. We will live safely in the land and prosper. We command justice to run down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream in the business, educational, judicial and social systems in this country. Father, You have raised up this nation so that You can show Your power and declare Your name throughout the earth. Lord, we declare that we are a nation that acknowledges Your Son, Jesus Christ and implements Your principles.
I pray for God’s divine intervention in the following areas for this nation:
Father, have mercy on our country. We have been a sinful nation weighted down with iniquity. In Your great compassion, please blot out the stains of the sins of this nation. Wash us clean from our guilt and purify us from our sins. We come praying for our local mayors, city council members, Governor, Congressional Representatives, the President and his cabinet that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in godliness and dignity. Holy Spirit, touch the heart of the American Christian church to be a light that sits upon the hill in this country. Stir the hearts of every American Christian to represent Your love and grace through their daily living. Convict those Christians who are lukewarm and give them the courage and joy to stand for holiness and righteousness. Father, continue to pour out Your Holy Spirit on our nation and please do not turn Your face away from us. Speak into the minds of our local, state, and national leaders and guide their thoughts.
Father, forgive us as a nation for our many sins. Forgive us for hypocrisy, injustice, oppression, greed, racism, sexism, ageism, elitism, deceit, lying, lewdness, pornography, selfish ambitions, lawlessness, rebellion, violence, hatred, partiality, sexual promiscuity, homosexuality, adultery, fornication, and slander. Forgive us for not representing Your Kingdom as a Christian nation. Lord, remind our nation to be forgiving and help us to forgive.
As a nation, lead us not into temptation; but, deliver us from the evil one.
You are the Lord, our God, and there is no other. No one is holy like You. No one is besides You. There is not any rock like You. Lord, You are the King of kings and Lord of lords. You rule and reign forever. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
