December 20: A Prayer for Our Boys

Heavenly Father, we thank You for blessing our boys and creating them in Your image.  We thank You for blessing them to grow into smart, creative and caring young men who will love You.  Thank You for blessing them academically, athletically and artistically.   Thank You for watching over them and protecting them from harm and danger.  We love You, Lord.   You are our strength, our rock, our fortress and Savior.  You are our Rock, in whom we find protection.  You are our shield, the power that saves us. You are our place of safety. You are a loving and kind Father.

Almighty Father, today, we declare that the favor of the Lord surrounds our boys like a shield and they are blessed. Our boys will possess love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control by the power of The Holy Spirit. They will trust in The Lord with all their hearts, and not lean to their own understanding. Our boys will not copy the behavior and customs of the world, but they will let God transform them into new persons by changing the way they think.  As a result, they will learn what is God’s will for them, which is good and pleasing and perfect.  Like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, they will excel academically, socially, emotionally and psychologically.  We declare that the mind of Christ operates in them so they can love, think, and act like Him.  Our boys will become great leaders, loving husbands and excellent fathers.

List the name(s) of the boy(s) you are praying for today:

Holy Spirit, we ask You to fill our boys with Your wisdom, knowledge and spiritual understanding.  Help our boys to love themselves and not to succumb to peer pressure.  Bring other young men and women to them who will be loyal and trustworthy; people who will be faithful friends.  Help them to be good friends to their friends.

Merciful Father, please forgive our boys for any acts of sinfulness they have committed, covertly or overtly (If you are a parent of a boy, In this paragraph be specific about listing the acts of sinfulness for your son).  Forgive our boys for disobeying their parents, teachers and people in authority.  Forgive them for when they have been insensitive and sometimes arrogant.   Forgive us, as parents, for not always being patient and sometimes overbearing (If you are a parent of a boy, Be specific and list the sins that you have committed related to your relationship with your son)Holy Spirit, forgive us when we don’t always trust You to lead and guide our boys.  Help our boys to forgive those who have offended them (If you are a parent of a girl, ask The Holy Spirit whether you should lead your son in a prayer of forgiveness).  Help us to forgive our sons (Be specific about what you need to forgive.  Ask The Holy Spirit to show you what needs to be forgiven.  As He shows you, say aloud, “I forgive (and speak what He shows you).”  If you need to ask your son to forgive you, ask The Holy Spirit to give you the courage or to help you swallow your pride and go to him and ask for forgiveness.)

Holy Spirit, help our sons not to yield to temptation; help us, as parents, not to yield to temptation, but deliver us all from the evil one.

Lord, all honor and glory belong to You forever and ever!  You are the eternal King, the unseen One who never dies; You alone are God.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
