A Prayer of Thanksgiving for the Declaration of Independence for the United States of America

Scripture Reading:

Exodus 15:1-20, Acts 17:24-28

Reflections of the Heart:

Our forefathers came from all corners of the world. Whether by choice or by force, whether by greed or of that exploitative seed, God meant it for good, to bring about today’s present result, to save the lives of many people. All saints are to control God’s affairs apart from outside influences, by declaring the independence of Christ Jesus in our hearts.

Scriptural Prayer:

O God, who will not fear You, Lord, and glorify Your Name?  You alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before You, for Your righteous deeds have been revealed. We sing praises to You, sing praises; we sing praises to our King; we sing praises! We praise You, Lord! How good to sing praises to our God.  How delightful and how fitting as we unite in prayers of thanksgiving for the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America. We thank You, Father for placing us in this country where we are free to worship You and become the full measure of whom You created us individually to be. We thank You, Father, for the Holy Spirit. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

As Joseph clearly proclaimed to his remnant nation of Israel, Lord God, we know that no one replaced You in the Declaration of Independence of the USA. Your purpose and pleasure contained in Your Word has not returned to You empty, but has accomplished Your plan and purpose of evangelism for the USA.  We know that those who meant evil against all whom You would send to fill this great nation would be exposed to Your Declaration, that You, Heavenly Father, meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day for all Americans, to save many people from around the world. We confess that we are not afraid, for You continue to be our provider and comforter.  Heavenly Father, as citizens of the United States, we will walk in light, as You, merciful Father, are in the light.  We will have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, Your only begotten Son, cleanses us from all sin. We decree that because we will fully obey You and carefully keep all Your commandments that You revealed in Your Son, Jesus Christ, You will set the United States of America high above all the nations of the world.  You will set us high above all the other nations You have made.  Then our Declaration of Independence will receive praise, honor and renown.  We will be a nation that is holy to You, our Lord, our God, just as You promised.  We declare that American believers will walk in freedom, for we have devoted ourselves to Your commandments.

Holy Spirit, help all believers who celebrate the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America to search the Scriptures to know that You have not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self-discipline.  Remind us, daily, that we believers are Your seed of purpose and intent spoken by the prophet Isaiah.  Empower us to speak by sending out Your Word so that it produces fruit and accomplishes all You want it to do.  Enlighten our hearts so that we will live in joy and peace, just as the mountains and hills burst into song, and the trees of the field clap their hands! Your Spirit is holy. May You be an everlasting reminder to believers that we are blessed to give thanksgiving to You whenever we celebrate our independence, as a nation. Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, let all the nations of the world see that we are a people claimed by You.  Let them stand in awe of You when they see how You declared the independence of a people whom You called from all nations of the world, whom You willed to know freedom, to choose life in Your Son over eternal death.

Holy Spirit, remind me to speak only positive confessions about my country, including my gratitude for all that our independence has made possible for me and for my family:

Merciful Father, forgive us for undue criticism of our nation and its leaders. Because human beings are imperfect vessels, those who forged the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America did not always live up to their acknowledgment that all persons are created equal in Your sight, nor have many since our nation was founded. Holy Spirit, remind us when we exhibit or speak bigotry or racism so that we may truly repent and seek our Father’s forgiveness.  Forgive those who seek to divide our people rather than emphasizing the positive characteristics which unite us.  Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed.)  Holy Spirit, remind us all of those we need to forgive and help us to be quick to forgive.  As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive.  (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to show you names or faces of people that you may need to forgive.  As He shows you, say aloud, “I forgive name of person(s).”  Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)

Lord, help us to not yield to temptation; but deliver us from the evil one.

O God, You are mightier than the violent raging of the seas, mightier than the breakers on the shore. You, Lord, are mightier than these!  For this, O Lord, we will praise You among the nations; we will sing praises to Your Name.  May the nations praise You, O God. Yes, may all the nations praise You. In the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we pray, Amen.
