A Prayer for Educators

A Prayer for Educators

Scripture Reading

Psalm 111, Daniel 1

Reflections of the Heart:

Who was your favorite teacher?  Most people rarely forget the teachers who had profound impacts on their lives, whether positive or negative.  Teachers touch the lives of more children than most professions.  The right attitude, teaching style and determination can encourage a student to strive for excellence or settle for mediocrity.  Let us pray for those who are investing into our children.

Scriptural Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we hallow Your Name today.  By Your awesome power, You made the earth and have established this world by Your infinite wisdom.  You are the Lord who stretched out the heavens by Your understanding.  We give You praise and glory.  We thank You for Your loving-kindness and tender mercies.  We thank You, Father, for our educators, students and administrators in the Houston Metropolitan Area.  Thank You for blessing and protecting them on and off school campuses.  Thank You for blessing them with intellect and reason.  Lord, we are grateful and we bless Your wonderful Name. You are our light, salvation and the rock of safety.

We command the kingdom of God to come, and the Heavenly Father’s will to be done in the lives of all educators.  Happy is the person who finds wisdom and gains understanding.  Wisdom proceeds are better than profit from silver and gain from fine gold. Since wisdom is the principle thing, we declare that our educators will seek wisdom.  We declare that the wisdom of God will enter and rule their hearts.  We confess that they will bind love, truth, and faithfulness around their necks and write them on the tablets of their hearts.  As the people of God, we declare that our educators will give wise counsel and instruction, which are the fountains of life.  We trust that You will cover them.  Father, we believe that You will bless our educators and surround them with favor like a shield.

Ask the Holy Spirit to show you what you can do to help an educator:

Holy Spirit, bless our educators for their service.  Help them to remain committed to their educational “calling.”  Keep them safe in their classrooms and lead and guide them as they instruct. Father, increase their creativity and innovation to teach our students according to their needs, levels of intelligence, and learning capabilities.   Cause peace to be still in any “storms” that may be raging within the education community.  Please touch the hearts of administrators to be fair and conscientious to the needs of teachers, students and parents.  We ask You to touch the hearts of our local, state and federal legislators to increase funding and resources that are badly needed in our independent school systems and institutions of higher learning.  Holy Spirit, increase the capacity of our students to learn, comprehend and excel in all areas of education including reading, mathematics, sciences, and the arts.  Holy Spirit, like Jesus, help each student to grow in wisdom and stature.  Cause Your joy to be their strength.  We pray for the relationships of our educators and students.  Show our students how to honor and respect their teachers and administrators.  Holy Spirit, touch the hearts of our students to purpose in their hearts not to defile themselves with the ways of the world through sex, lying, stealing, gang violence, drug use and other hurtful things.  Help them to make the right choices.

Father, forgive the sins of our educators. Forgive those who do not consult with You about their students, curricula or teaching methods.  Forgive those educators who show favoritism.  Forgive those educators who work for a paycheck instead of the welfare of our children.  Forgive us, as a nation, for being negligent in teaching students to first revere You, which is the beginning of wisdom. Forgive our nation for the inequities in our educators’ salaries and compensation.  Forgive us, as a nation, for devaluing the worth of education.  Have mercy upon us, Father, and help us to redirect our misplaced priorities.  Holy Spirit, remind our educators to forgive others; and help them to forgive.

Lead them not into temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.

Lord, You are great in Zion and high above all the people.  We praise Your great and awesome name.  Great and marvelous are Your works, O Lord God, the Almighty.  Just and true are Your ways, O King of the nations.  Who will not fear You, Lord, and glorify Your Name?  You alone are holy.  All the nations will come and worship before You; for Your righteous deeds have been revealed.   In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
