November 23: A Prayer for Unity and Prosperity in the Greater Houston Area

Omniscient Father, we thank You for the Greater Houston Area. Thank You for our city officials, first responders, public works employees and everyone who helps with the day-to-day operation of this city.  Thank You for the citizens of this great city.  You are great and greatly to be praised. You are to be feared above all gods.  The earth is Yours and everything in it; the world and all its people belong to You.  You laid the earth’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths.  Lord, Your works are wonderful.  You are our hope and shield.  In You, do our hearts rejoice because we trust in Your Holy Name.  Let Your unfailing love continue to surround us, Lord, for our hope is in You alone.

Redeeming Father, let Your Kingdom come and Your will be done in the Greater Houston Area as it is in heaven.  We declare that as the people of God, we love You with all our hearts, souls, minds and strength and we love our neighbors as ourselves.  As citizens of this great city, we declare that we do not see Jew or Gentile, male or female, black or white.  But, as Your children, we have all put on Christ, like putting on new clothes and we walk in unity and love with one another. It is because of this love that we exhibit for each other that people know that we are Your disciples.  Your Word tells us that if we love You, we must also love our brothers and sisters in Christ.  Therefore, we declare by faith that the Body of Christ in the Greater Houston Area does not stand and declare our love for You with hate in our hearts for our brothers and sisters in Christ.  We do not look out only for our own interests, but we take an interest in the needs of others.  We live in harmony with each other and resist racial, social, and economic division. We are of one mind, united in thought and purpose. We declare that the people in our communities resist evil, and do good; they search for peace and work to maintain it.

Holy Spirit, please continue to draw the unsaved people in our city to the glory of the Father, so that they will confess Jesus Christ and receive Him as their Savior and Lord.  Mobilize and send us and other believers into our communities to share the Gospel, causing Your power to prevail throughout the Greater Houston Area. Holy Spirit, please unify our communities and help us all to stand for justice and righteousness. We ask that Your Spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel, and power rest upon each political, civic, religious and business leader, investor, and entrepreneur. Fill them with the knowledge of Your will and give them a thirst for Your Word so that they will walk in Your ways for practicing business. Help them to make righteous decisions and operate with honesty and integrity. Lord, please bless the Greater Houston Area to be a beacon of light and hope for our nation.

Think of some specific needs in the Greater Houston Area.  Ask the Holy Spirit to use you as an agent of change and take action: ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Righteous Father, forgive us for any acts of sinfulness, including strife, discord, jealousy, rivalries, violence, theft, injustice, hatred, oppression, greed, idolatry, pride, slander, racism, sexism, ageism, laziness, apathy, and any abuse of power.  Forgive those people in the Greater Houston Area who do not trust in You.  Forgive those of us who are Christians for not sharing Your Gospel with our neighbors.  Father, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed).  Holy Spirit, remind us all of those we need to forgive and help us to be quick to forgive. As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to show you names or faces of people that you may need to forgive.  As He shows you, say aloud, “I forgive name of person(s).”  Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)

Holy Spirit, help us all to not yield to temptation; but deliver us from the evil one.

Almighty Lord, You are the blessed and Sovereign One.  The King of kings, and the Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, dwelling in an unapproachable light, whom no man can see.  Yours is the Kingdom, the power and the glory forever and ever.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

November 20: A Prayer for the Homeless

Righteous Father, we thank You for being a God of grace and mercy.  Thank You for knowing each homeless person and family intimately. Thank You for being their protection, shelter, hope and help. The heavens proclaim Your Glory, Lord.  The skies display Your craftsmanship.  Day after day they continue to speak; night after night You are made known.  Father, Your instructions are perfect, reviving the soul.  Your decrees are trustworthy, making wise the simple. Your commandments are right, bringing joy to the heart.  Your commands are clear, giving insight for living.  Reverencing You is pure, lasting forever.  Your laws are true; each one is fair.  They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold.  They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb.

Glorious Father, we confess that Your arm is not too weak to save the homeless, neither is Your ear deaf to hear their calls.  Lord, You know each of them and call them by name.  You know everything about them, when they sit down and when they stand up. You know their thoughts even when they are far away. We rejoice Mighty King, because You said You will never fail nor abandon them.  Lord, You said that the poor will always be among us, but You also mandated that we take care of them.  You said that we are to share our food with the hungry, give shelter to the homeless, and give clothes to those who need them and to not hide from our relatives who need our help.  We declare that, as a Church Family, we will commit to feeding the hungry and helping those who are in trouble.  Lord, then You will guide us continually, give us water when we are dry and restore our strength.

Holy Spirit, show me how I can be a blessing to the homeless community in Houston:

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Holy Spirit, we ask that You would be a wall of protection and deliverance around the homeless daily. Watch over them while they sleep and protect them from violence, abuse, and theft. Lord, we cry out on behalf of the children whose families are homeless.  Help them to overcome their bleak beginnings and show them how precious they are in Your sight.  Help them to focus and study so that they will excel in school. Encourage them when other children say mean things about them because of their circumstances.  Holy Spirit, change the hearts of the leaders of our country who continue to ignore the plight of the homeless, yet they pursue greed and avarice. Lord, for those who are homeless because of an addiction or mental illness, please help them to find the help they need so that they can get their lives back in order and begin to rebuild. Father, bless Pastor Velosia and Daniel Kibe and each member of our Global and Local Missions and Outreach ministries as they serve those in need.  Please continue to empower and provide for our Church Family financially so that we have the resources to battle this cultural atrocity.

Merciful Father, forgive those homeless persons whose poor decisions have led to their current situation.  Forgive those who are homeless due to drugs, alcohol, gambling, addictions, or poor work habits. Forgive those people who would seek to take advantage of the homeless.  Forgive those who look down upon the homeless.  Forgive those of us who have resources to give to the homeless but refuse to give.  Forgive those agencies who claim to be advocates for the homeless, but misappropriate the resources.  Forgive our nation for creating systems that produce a homeless population. Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed). Holy Spirit, remind the homeless of those they need to forgive and help them to be quick to forgive.

Holy Spirit, help the homeless to not yield to temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.

O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies, where is there anyone as mighty as You?  You are entirely faithful. You are far more awesome than all who surround Your throne.  Your home reaches up to the heavens, while its foundation is on the earth. You draw water up from the oceans and pour it down as rain on the land. The Lord is Your Name!  You are mighty, but You do not despise anyone! You are mighty in both power and understanding.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

October 24: A Prayer Regarding Unpleasant Work Environments

Glorious Father, we thank You for the blessing of employment.  Thank You for Your favor that surrounds Your children like a shield.  Thank You for Your goodness and mercy which follow closely behind us.  Lord, Your Kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. You rule throughout all generations.  You always keep Your promises; You are gracious in all that You do.  You help the fallen and lift those bent beneath their loads.  The eyes of all look to You in hope; You give them their food as they need it.  When You open Your hand, You satisfy the hunger and thirst of every living thing.  We bless and praise Your holy Name!

Almighty Father, we declare that Your Word will be operative in the lives of our Church Family members who work in unpleasant environments.  We confess that as they commit their works to You, their plans will succeed. Holy Spirit, we declare that our Church Family members who work in unpleasant environments will yield to Your leading and guidance so that they will be empowered to be light in the midst of their dark work environment. They are peacemakers in contentious situations so they will be blessed. Lord, we confess that they will walk uprightly and do what is right so no good thing will be withheld from them. We decree that as employers treat their employees and customers with dignity, fairness and respect; they will be blessed as they endure persecution for doing what is right.

Holy Spirit, I will declare the following scriptural blessing for my employer:

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Holy Spirit, please fill our Church Family members who work in unpleasant environments with Your wisdom, understanding, counsel, and power.  Give them dreams and visions that exceed their expectations and provide them with the resources they need to successfully accomplish Your purpose(s) for them.  As they perform their assigned tasks, help them to always work as unto You. Holy Spirit, help them to be peacemakers in their work environment and to not participate in any negative conversations or behaviors.  Father, help their supervisors and managers to communicate and write down the mission, vision and job descriptions and make them plain to their employees so that they can implement it.  Help our Church Family members to not grow weary while doing well at their jobs and remind them that they will reap a harvest of blessings if they do not give up.

Merciful Father, forgive the employees and employers who work in unpleasant environments for all acts of sinfulness.  Forgive those who have not been diligent in seeking Your guidance and leadership in their work places.  Forgive those who do not trust in You, but lean to their own understanding.  Forgive those who have compromised Your Word in order to make a profit.  Forgive those employers who have not treated their employees and customers fairly.  Forgive those who have not properly taken care of or shown respect for one another.  Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed).

Eternal King, You are the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth.  You never grow weak or weary.  No one can measure the depths of Your understanding.    In Jesus’ Name, Amen

October 13: A Declaration for Justice

Eternal Father, we thank You for being the just Judge.  Thank You for hearing us when we call to You for help for our nation.  Thank You for moving on the hearts of Your people to establish peace, justice and righteousness in the earth.  Lord, we will praise You with all of our hearts.  Your love for us is so very great, we will give glory to Your Name forever!  Lord, You have rescued us from the depths of death.  We will sing of Your unfailing love forever. Young and old will hear of Your faithfulness.  Your unfailing love will last forever.  Your faithfulness is as enduring as the heavens.

Immortal Father, we command justice to run down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream within our judicial system in America. Your Word says that justice and righteousness are more acceptable to You than sacrifice. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne. We confess that justice and righteousness will prevail in our nation, homes, workplaces, churches, schools and communities.  You are the Lord who loves all of humankind; You are no respecter of persons.  Lord, You created us in Your image and it is Your desire that we, Your creation, love each other as we love ourselves.  Lord, we believe that You will raise us above the injustices of racism that our nation has witnessed lately.  And because Your Spirit dwells within us, the Body of Christ, we confess that we will walk in righteousness and integrity.  We will not discriminate against anyone because of their race, their sex, or their age.  We will not pay back evil with more evil, but we will always do things in such a way that everyone can see that we are honorable.

Holy Spirit, as I watch the news, show me how to pray about the injustices in our nation:

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Holy Spirit, please help our nation to heal from the wounds that the recent instances of injustice have inflicted on the American people.  Remind the members of the Body of Christ to not sin by letting anger control them. Grant each of us the desire and commitment to daily walk in Your justice and righteousness without prejudice or partiality.  Deal with the hearts of those Christians who practice this ungodliness.  Remind them to walk in Your Spirit and not in their flesh.  Guide parents on how to talk with their children about this subject in a way that will not instill fear, anger, or hatred.  Holy Spirit, I ask that You search my heart for areas of hidden discrimination or bias and remove it immediately from me.

Abba Father, forgive us for any acts of racism, sexism, and ageism.  Forgive our nation for its injustice, prejudice, and oppression.  Forgive our nation for loving power and things instead of people.  Please forgive those persons who are presently practicing racism, sexism, and ageism.  As the Body of Christ, we renounce the gods of racism, sexism, and ageism.  Forgive me, Father, for not acknowledging that when I make blanket statements about race, sex, or age that I am discriminating.

Triumphant King, You are greater than any other god. You do whatever You please throughout all heaven and earth, and on the seas and in their depths.  You cause clouds to rise over the earth. You send lightning with the rain and release the winds from Your storehouses.  Your Name, Lord, endures forever, Your fame is known to every generation.  Yours, Lord, is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

September 8: A Prayer Concerning Overcoming Addictions

Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus, the Name that is above all names. Thank You for giving us the power of the Holy Spirit which is greater than any power that exists in this world. Thank You for never giving up on us, even when we fail time after time. You are so merciful and kind. We cannot live without You, Lord. We will praise You with our whole hearts. We will tell of the marvelous things You have done. We are filled with joy because of You, Most High, and we sing praises to Your Name! We know You to be a shelter for us when we are oppressed and troubled. You never abandon those who search for You. Lord, we love You. You are our strength. You are the Rock in whom we find protection and safety. Your Name is worthy of praise!

Faithful Father, it is not Your will for us to be lost and held captive by addictions to drugs, alcohol, sex, food, gambling, or any other vices. We decree that whoever the Son has set free is truly free. Therefore, we rebuke the spirit of addiction that seeks to destroy the lives of those within our personal families and in our community. There is no other name that is powerful enough to save our loved ones who are bound by addiction than the Name of Jesus. We are the righteous, and our earnest prayers have great power, producing wonderful results. We will not waver and doubt when things seem to get worse instead of better. We know that You will respond to our faith. Therefore, we declare that we will not cease to pray until our loved ones who are bound by addiction are released and delivered. We declare, in the Name of Jesus, that our homes, our families, and our communities are restored back to You!

List the names of friends, family, or neighbors who are struggling to break free of an addiction. Commit to pray specifically for them today:

Holy Spirit, make us keenly aware of those within our families and communities who are hurting and bound. Give us a heart of compassion toward them. Show us how to reach out to them without judging or condemning them. Remind us of Your love and grace that brought us through our trials. Heal those who are bound by addiction in every area of their hurt.  Strengthen and help those who have been hurt by the fallout of addiction – the grandparents raising grandchildren, incarcerated parents, abandoned and abused children, impoverished families, and those who have lost loved ones due to addiction. Help us, as the Body of Christ, to build better partnerships with community organizations who are reaching out to house, educate, and rehabilitate those who want to come out of addiction. May we be salt and light to them as the Lord has commanded.

Righteous Father, please forgive us for not being there when we should have for those who turned to drugs for comfort. Forgive us for judging and condemning those who are addicted. Forgive us for overlooking opportunities to show love and compassion to the hurting families who are suffering from the effects of addiction. Forgive those who are addicted for turning to something unholy for help instead of turning to You. Forgive them for not responding to the voice of wisdom and making unhealthy choices in life. Forgive those of us who have at one time, knowingly or unknowingly, contributed to the cause of another’s addiction. Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that You have committed). Holy Spirit, remind those who are addicted of all those they need to forgive and help them to be quick to forgive.

Holy Spirit, help those who are addicted to not yield to temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.

Glorious Lord, ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything You made, we can clearly see Your invincible qualities – Your eternal power and Your divine nature. O Sovereign Lord, You have only begun to show Your greatness and the strength of Your hand to Your servants. Is there any god in heaven or on earth who can perform such great and mighty deeds as You do? In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
