A Declaration of Protection for Our Children and Youth

Scripture Reading:

Psalm 121, Luke 24:35-49

Reflections of the Heart:

Our children and youth are living in a very volatile generation. Crimes against children have increased dramatically over the past decade, and it is imperative that we use our authority in Jesus Christ to stand up for the safety of all children. Let us become more aware, more alert, and more involved so that they can be assured of a safe and happy future.

Scriptural Prayer:

Righteous Father, we are so grateful that You are all-seeing and all-knowing. You have Your eye on each and every person on this earth, including our children and youth. Thank You for faithfully watching over them every day. We thank You for keeping Your angels stationed around them day and night. Thank You, Lord, for guarding their lives in the face of seen and unseen dangers. Father, we give You glory. You are in Your holy Temple, yet You still rule from heaven. You watch everyone closely, examining every person on earth. We lift our hands and worship You, for You Yourself watch over our children and youth. You stand beside them as their protective shade.  All praises to You, our Father and our God!

Awesome Father, when our children and youth are at home, You are there. When they are in school, You are there. Wherever they go, You are there. We believe in the power of Your Word, so we commit ourselves to declaring blessings over our children and youth every day. In the Name of Jesus, we rebuke every foul plot of the enemy to harass, bully, injure, harm, or kidnap our children and youth. The blood of Jesus covers them and guards their steps. We declare that our children and youth live in the shelter of the Most High, and they find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. You alone are their refuge and their place of safety. You are their God, and they trust You. Lord, we expect You to rescue them from every trap (drugs, alcohol, crime, and abuse), and protect them from deadly disease. You promised that You will cover them with Your feathers. You will shelter them with Your wings. These promises are their armor and their protection.

Holy Spirit, teach us all how valuable our children and youth are to the Father. Help parents to act responsibly when it comes to the welfare of their children. Keep them from being distracted by work, bills, relationships, and other issues. Help them to be open to correction and instruction if they are lacking in good, balanced parenting skills. Lord, help us all to be shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves in the handling of our children and youth.  Give us the courage to take action when we see warning signs of impending danger around them. Help our communities to come together to cover those children who are runaways and castaways. Encourage these children to come to know the love of the Father and to trust in Him to get them to safety and to people who will care for them. Empower our law enforcement officers, social workers, attorneys, child advocates, and court judges with the ability to bring to justice those who perpetrate crimes against children and youth. Bring strong conviction upon the hearts of those who have harmed our children and youth, and bring them to the point of repentance and deliverance so that they can receive the grace and redemption that Jesus made possible for all mankind.

List the names of any children and youth who are or may be in danger and pray for them. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you how you can be of help:

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Blessed Father, forgive us for our sins, especially those we have committed against our children and youth. Forgive those who discourage and demean our children and youth.  Forgive those who refuse to do their part to protect our children and youth. Forgive those parents and guardians who refuse to seek help for their children when they are spiraling out of control. Forgive those in the Church who judge and ostracize our children and youth instead of seeking to understand and show them, love. Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that You have committed). Holy Spirit, remind us of all those we need to forgive and help us to be quick to forgive. As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal names or faces of people that You may need to forgive. As He reveals them, say, “I forgive name of person(s).” Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in Your soul caused by unforgiveness.)

Holy Spirit, help us all not to yield to temptation but deliver us from the evil one.

Magnificent Father, no one is holy like You! There is no one besides You. There is no rock like our God. You are the Lord, the Mighty One, who has spoken and summoned all humanity from where the sun rises to where it sets. From Mount Zion, the perfection of beauty, You shine in glorious radiance. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

September 12: A Declaration of Holiness for Our Youth

Loving Father, we thank You for our youth. Thank You for knowing each of them intimately. Thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to be their Helper and Teacher. Thank You for blessing our youth socially, academically, relationally and emotionally.  Father, we sing praises to You, our God and strength. We will sing, beat the tambourine and play the sweet lyre and harp.  Your dwelling place is lovely.  We faint with longing to enter Your courts with our whole beings, bodies and souls.  We will shout joyfully to You, the living God.  Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how we praise You!  We will praise You as long as we live; we will lift up our hands to You in prayer.  You satisfy us more than the richest feast.  We will praise You with songs of joy.

Sovereign King, we confess that our youth will truly understand that their bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit.  We declare that they will give their bodies to You and will be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind You will find acceptable, for this is truly the way to worship You.  They will not copy the illicit behavior and customs of this world, but they will let You, Father, transform them into new people by changing the way they think.  We declare that our youth will learn and grow in Your Word.  They will know Your will for them, which is good and pleasing and perfect.  We decree that our youth will know You and all of Your fullness. They will worship You and be thankful. We declare that our youth will not do vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies. They will not trade the truth about You for a lie. They will not worship the things You have created, instead of You, the Creator, and they will not be abandoned to shameful desires. In Jesus’ Name, we declare that our daughters will not lust for other girls and our sons will not burn with lust for other boys.  Matter of fact, our sons and daughters will not have sex until they marry. We cancel every generational curse of perversion. We decree that our youth will not partake in pornography, fornication, homosexuality, bestiality, or any other sexual perversion.  We confess that they will unashamedly run from sexual sin.

I commit to praying for the following youth this month:

Holy Spirit, our Deliverer, some of our youth are ensnared by the sexual perversions of this world.  Please remove the scales from their eyes and circumcise their hearts so that they can see themselves reflected in God’s Word. Remind them that they are a chosen people, royal priests, a holy nation, Your very own possession. Deliver them from the shame and anger that perversion and sin creates in their hearts and minds.  Remind them that there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus and that nothing can ever separate them from the Father’s love that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Help our youth to make Godly choices. Convict them when they watch, read, listen to and visit internet sites that are ungodly.  Surround them with strong Christian friends who will support them and hold them accountable when they are wrong.  Lead them to people who love Christ more than culture.  Empower our youth to resist peer pressure.  Holy Spirit, help our parents to be actively involved in their children’s lives.  Help them to create holy, positive home environments for their children and youth.

Merciful Father, forgive our youth for any sexual sin they have participated in including pornography, fornication, oral sex, homosexuality, and taking inappropriate pictures of themselves.  Forgive those who do not value their bodies. Forgive those parents and guardians who have not created holy environments in their homes and lived as models of righteousness and integrity. Forgive those single parents who are not living celibate lives. Forgive those parents who allow their boyfriends and girlfriends to spend the night in the home where their children live. Forgive those married parents who are engaged in extra-marital affairs. Forgive those parents who are involved with pornography and have made pornographic material accessible to their children and youth. Forgive us, as the Body of Christ, for turning a blind eye to what our children and youth are doing.  Forgive us for not openly discussing sexual purity with our youth. Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed). Holy Spirit, remind our youth of those they need to forgive and help them to be quick to forgive.  As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to show you names or faces of people that you may need to forgive.  As He shows you, say aloud, “I forgive name of person(s).”  Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)

Holy Spirit, help our youth to not yield to temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.

Almighty God, You are the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.  Blessing and honor and glory and power belong to You who sits on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

August 21: A Prayer for Godly Friends for Our Children and Youth

Gracious God, thank You for loving us so much that You sent Jesus Christ to be our Lord, Savior and Friend. Thank You for creating the gift of friendship and blessing us with Godly relationships. Thank You for calling us Your friends.  We are honored to be Your friend.  Abba Father, Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how we praise You! We will praise You as long as we live, lifting up our hands to You in prayer. We will praise Your Name with singing, and we will honor You with thanksgiving.  We give thanks to You because You are near.  People everywhere will tell of Your wonderful deeds.

Heavenly Father, it is Your will that our children and youth develop and maintain Godly, healthy friendships.  Your Word declares that two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.  If one falls, the other can reach out and help; but someone who falls alone is in real trouble.  We declare that our children and youth will have Godly friends who will seek first Your Kingdom above all else, and live righteously so that they will receive from You all that they need.  Their friends will love You, Lord, with all of their hearts, souls, minds and strength and they will love our children and youth as they love themselves.  We decree that the parents and guardians of our youth and children will model friendships that are wholesome and Godly so that they will understand what friendship really looks like. In Jesus’ Name, we cancel every toxic friendship and destroy the assignments of the devil against our children and youth.  We confess that our young people will not follow the advice of the wicked, stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.

I will pray for the following children and youth to find and maintain healthy, Godly friendships:

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Loving Father, some of our children and youth struggle when it comes to making friends.  Holy Spirit, please help them to walk in the love of Christ and draw Godly friends to themselves.  In their quest for friendship, help our children and youth to love themselves. Instruct our parents and guardians on how to help their child or youth to see themselves through the Father’s eyes.  Give them the words to be able to help their child or youth to understand how precious Your thoughts are towards them.  As they grow in self-esteem and self-worth, help them to grow in boldness and confidence in the way that they carry themselves so that they will attract Godly, positive people into their lives.  Help our children and youth to be kind, fair, and friendly.

Merciful Father, forgive our children and youth if they have intentionally isolated other students or made others to feel inferior.  Forgive them for succumbing to peer pressure in their desire to fit in with a certain group of people.  Forgive our parents and guardians for not teaching their children how to be good friends and affirming them in Your Word.  Forgive them if they have belittled or made light of their child or youth’s desire to have friends.  As for me, Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed).  Holy Spirit, remind our children and youth of those they need to forgive and help them to be quick to forgive.

Holy Spirit, help our children and youth to not yield to temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.

Glorious King, You are honored in Judah; Your Name is great in Israel. You are glorious and more majestic than the everlasting mountains.  You are the King of Glory; the Lord strong and mighty, the Lord invincible in battle!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

August 2: A Back-to-School Prayer for Our Educators and Students

Our Father, we praise and thank You for our educators and students.  Thank You for each school and school district.  Thank You for surrounding each educator and student with favor like a shield.  We exalt You, our God and King and praise Your Name forever and ever.  We will praise You every day and forever.  Lord You are great and most worthy of praise; no one can measure Your greatness.  Each generation will tell its children of Your mighty acts and proclaim Your power.  Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds.  Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains and Your justice like the ocean depths.  As a Church Family, we come clapping our hands and shouting to You with joyful praise.  You are the Lord, Most High, and You are awesome!  You are the great King of all the earth.

Triumphant Father, we confess that like Jesus, our students will grow in wisdom, stature and favor with You and all people.  We declare that they will focus on their studies during the school term and not grow distracted or complacent. Each student will work willingly in their classes as though they were working for You.  Lord, we declare that no evil will conquer them, nor will any plague come near their homes.  We expect for You to order Your angels to protect them wherever they go.  We decree that the wisdom of God will enter and rule in their hearts.  We confess that they will respect and obey the instructions of their parents, teachers and school administrators.  We declare that the wise instruction of the teachers will be like a life-giving fountain to each student.  In Jesus’ Name, each parent will direct their children onto the right path, and when they are older they will not leave it.  Our students will have good success because they will meditate daily and obey Your Word.

Holy Spirit, I will pray for the following educators and students in my family and community:

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Holy Spirit, impart into our students Your spirit of excellence, like Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego.  Bless our educators for their service to the Houston community and surrounding communities.  Help them to remain committed to their educational “calling.”  Keep them safe in their classrooms and lead and guide them as they teach. Grant each teacher wisdom, creativity, and grace to teach each child according to his or her needs, level of intelligence, and learning capabilities.  Increase the wisdom and understanding of each parent on how to partner with the schools to achieve success in their student’s education.  Bless the homes of each student to be a place of love, peace and support.  We ask You to increase the capacity of the students to learn, comprehend and excel in all areas of their education including: reading, mathematics, sciences, arts, and all required testing. During their extracurricular activities, please protect them from injury.  Help each student to develop Godly friendships this school year. Holy Spirit, create within each student, teacher, and administrator an excitement, passion and academic desire as they enter the new school year.

Merciful Father, forgive the sins of our educators and students (list the specific sins).  Forgive those of us in the Body of Christ, for being negligent in teaching our students to first reverence You, which is the foundation of true knowledge.  Forgive those parents for sacrificing their students to excessive television, video games, music and to the ways and customs of the world.  Forgive us, as a nation, for devaluing the worth of teachers and education.  Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed).  Holy Spirit, remind our educators and students of those they need to forgive and help them to be quick to forgive.

Holy Spirit, help our educators and students to not yield to temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.

Exalted Lord, You are worthy to receive glory, honor and power.  You created all things, and they exist because You created what You pleased.  Yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever.   In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

July 23: A Prayer for the Young Adults

Marvelous Father, we thank You for the young adults in the Body of Christ. Thank You for the bright and prosperous future that You have for each of them. Thank You for the blood of Your precious Son, Jesus Christ, that brought us all near to You. Great is Your faithfulness. Your mercies are fresh every morning. We praise Your great and awesome Name. Your Name is holy! It is because of Your faithfulness that our young adults are kept strong in You and the power of Your might.

Faithful Father, we declare that the young adults in the Body of Christ are confident they have been raised from the dead along with Christ, and they are seated in the heavenly realms because they are united with Him.  They are new people. Their old lives are gone, and a new life has begun!  Lord, it is Your will that they be joyful always, ceaseless in prayer, and thankful in all circumstances. In Jesus’ Name, we declare that they are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. They do only those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life.  We declare that wisdom will enter their hearts, and knowledge will fill them with joy. Wise choices will watch over them and understanding will keep them safe.   We decree that they are living wisely and making the most of every opportunity.

Holy Spirit, help our young adults to strip off every weight that slows them down; especially the sins that so easily trips them up. Teach them to run with endurance the race God has set before them. Search them, O God, and know their hearts. Test them and know their anxious thoughts. Point out anything in them that offends You, and lead them along the path of everlasting life. Help them to daily trust in the Lord with all of their hearts and not lean to their own understanding, to seek His will in all that they do so that He can show them which path to take.  Show them how to make divine connections with others who will hold them accountable and help keep them focused and pressing toward the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling them.  Lord, show them the place and position that You have ordained for them in Your Kingdom.  Help us as the Body of Christ to embrace and empower our young adults to stand strong in their Kingdom faith.

Father, I commit to encouraging and praying for the following young adults:

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Compassionate Father, forgive our young adults collectively and individually for the sinful acts that they have committed against You, including: idolatry, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, homosexuality, selfish ambitions, fornication, envy, drunkenness, division and disobedience. Forgive them for times when they have lost sight of who they are in Christ Jesus.  Forgive us as the Body of Christ where we have not acknowledged or embraced our young adults.  Father, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed).  Holy Spirit, remind our young adults of those they need to forgive and help them to be quick to forgive.

Holy Spirit, help our young adults not to yield to temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.

Almighty God, You alone are God. You are the First and the Last. It was Your hand that laid the foundations of the earth; Your right hand that spread out the heavens above. When You call out the stars, they all appear in order. Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is Yours, O Lord, and this is Your Kingdom.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Holy Spirit, remind us of all those we need to forgive and help us to be quick to forgive. As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to show You names or faces of people that You may need to forgive. As He shows You, say aloud, “I forgive name of person(s).” Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in Your soul caused by unforgiveness.)

Holy Spirit, help us all to not yield to temptation; but deliver us from the evil one.

June 9: A Prayer Concerning Suicide Among Youth and Adults

Eternal Father, we thank You for being Immanuel, God with us. Thank You for allowing us to call to you whenever we are troubled, and for answering us. We thank You that Your arm is not too short to reach the youth and adults who are despairing of life right now. So many of them feel alone and defeated, but we know that those who are in the Lord will never be abandoned. You are a shield around us. You are our glory; the one who holds our heads high. Lord, Your majestic Name fills the earth! Your glory is higher than the heavens. When we look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers – the moon and the stars you set in place. What are mere mortals that You should think about us? Human beings, that You should care for us? Yet you made us only a little lower than Yourself and crowned us with glory and honor.

Almighty Father, we come crying out for our brothers and sisters in Christ who have been battling with suicidal thoughts and behaviors.  We decree that they may be pressed on every side by troubles, but they will not be crushed. They may feel perplexed but they will not be driven to despair.  They may feel hunted down, but they are never abandoned by You.  They may get knocked down, but they are not destroyed.  We decree that they are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus. We confess that they will recognize that the weapons of their warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.  They will bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.  In the Name of Jesus, we rebuke the evil one and cancel his plans to kill, steal, and destroy the lives of our youth and adults. We declare that he will not cheat them out of the rich and satisfying life that You purposed for them to have. We believe that You will restore to them the joy of Your salvation. You will unseal their lips that their mouths may once again praise you.

Holy Spirit, shine the divine light of the Father’s love into the broken hearts of our youth and adults. Remind them that He loved them so much that He gave His one and only Son so that those who believe in Him will not perish but have eternal life. Enlighten their perspective and help them to lift their eyes above their past hurts and present disappointments. Teach them until they are fully convinced that nothing can ever separate them from the Father’s love. Give us, the Body of Christ, a heart like the Father’s so that we will always be sensitive to one another’s needs and show genuine compassion. Give us wisdom to know how to reach those youth and adults who are feeling suicidal. Warn their family members, co-workers, teachers, coaches, and close friends so that they do not miss those critical moments of intervention. Show us how we can better connect with like-minded organizations within our community to form a strong alliance against the social, economic, spiritual, and psychological contributors to suicide among our youth and adults.

List the names of youth or adults whom the Holy Spirit is leading you to specifically cover in prayer today. Then do your best to personally reach out to them in some loving way:

Gracious Father, forgive those youth and adults who are feeling suicidal for any acts of sinfulness.  Forgive them for not trusting You to deliver them out of their current situation.  Forgive them for allowing the world to define them and their circumstances instead of Your Word.  Forgive us, the Body of Christ, for failing to notice the cries for help that our brothers and sisters have made.  Forgive us for being inconsistent in our love walk toward our youth and adults who are silently suffering. Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed).  Holy Spirit, remind us of all those we need to forgive and help us to be quick to forgive. As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to show you names or faces of people that you may need to forgive.  As He shows you, say aloud, “I forgive name of person(s).”  Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)

Holy Spirit, help our youth and adults not to yield to temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.

Magnificent Lord, You are our Savior. You are the hope of everyone on earth. You formed the mountains by Your power and armed Yourself with mighty strength. You quieted the raging oceans with their pounding waves. You silenced the shouting of the nations. Those  who live at the ends of the earth stand in awe of Your wonders. From where the sun rises to where it sets, You inspire shouts of joy. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

May 24: A Prayer of Protection for Our Children and Youth

Holy Spirit, help parents to act responsibly when it comes to the welfare of their children. Help us to come together in our communities to cover those children who are runaways and castaways. Empower our law enforcement officers, social workers, attorneys, child advocates, and court judges with the ability to bring to justice those who perpetrate crimes against children and youth. Bring strong conviction upon the hearts of those who have offended our children and youth, and bring them to the point of repentance and deliverance so that they can receive the grace and redemption that Jesus made possible for all mankind.

List the names of any children and youth who are or may be in danger and pray for them. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you how you can be of help:
