A Prayer for the Singles in the Body of Christ

Scripture Reading:

Psalm 84, Luke 11:9-13

Reflections of the Heart:

The season of singleness is meant to be productive and fulfilling. The enemy would have us to believe the exact opposite of that. But the truth is that singles have unique advantages that allow them to focus on self-improvement and Kingdom-building pursuits. If you are a single person, relish this time and don’t allow the flesh or the world to steal it from you!

Scriptural Prayer:

Marvelous Father, we thank You for our singles. Thank You for the plans and purposes that You have for their lives. Thank You for reminding our singles that they are complete in You. We give thanks to You and we sing praises to You, O Most High. It is good for us to proclaim Your unfailing love in the morning and Your faithfulness in the evening, accompanied by the ten-stringed harp and the melody of the lyre. Great is Your faithfulness. Your mercies are fresh every morning.

Faithful Father, You have been gracious to our singles and it is Your will that they are joyful always, ceaseless in prayer, and thankful in all circumstances. In Jesus’ Name, we declare that our singles are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. They do only those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life. Our singles do not despise this season in their lives; they embrace it. We decree that they fix their thoughts on what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely and admirable. Their minds are filled with things that are excellent and worthy of praise. We declare that wisdom will enter their hearts and knowledge will fill them with joy. Wise choices will watch over them and understanding will keep them safe. We confess that our singles love You, therefore, they will not team up with those who are unbelievers, neither will they partner with those who practice wickedness. For those preparing for marriage, we decree that they are living wisely and making the most of every opportunity.

Holy Spirit, help our singles to strip off every weight that slows them down; especially the sin that so easily trips them up. Teach them to run with endurance the race God has set before them. Search them, O God, and know their hearts. Test them and know their anxious thoughts. Point out anything in them that offends You, and lead them along the path of everlasting life. Should they ever become discouraged, remind them that if You are for them, who can ever be against them? Holy Spirit, help them to process any pain from their past and lead them to connect with those who are anointed and assigned to help them walk out their destiny. Show them how to make divine connections with others who will hold them accountable and help keep them focused and pressing toward the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling them.

Father, as a single person, I commit to praying for the following singles:

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Compassionate Father, forgive our singles collectively and individually for the sinful acts that they have committed against You including idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, homosexuality, selfish ambitions, fornication, envy, drunkenness, division, and disobedience. Forgive them for not acknowledging You in all their ways. Forgive them for times when they have lost sight of who they are in Christ Jesus. Merciful Father, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed). Holy Spirit, remind our singles of those they need to forgive and help them to be quick to forgive. As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal names or faces of people that you may need to forgive. As He reveals them, say, “I forgive name of person(s).” Now trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)

Holy Spirit, help our singles not to yield to temptation but deliver them from the evil one.

Almighty God, You alone are God. You are the First and the Last. It was Your hand that laid the foundations of the earth; Your right hand that spread out the heavens above. When You call out the stars, they all appear in order. O Lord, the God of our ancestor Israel, may You be praised forever and ever! Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is Yours, O Lord, and this is Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

A Prayer for Singles and Married Couples

Scripture Reading:

Psalm 98, Jeremiah 29:11-14

Reflections of the Heart:

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” – Maya Angelou

ONE Prayer:

Exalted Father, thank You for Your great love that continues from generation to generation!  Thank You for the plans and purposes You have for the lives of single and married couples.   With their whole being, they will praise You. They rejoice in knowing that You are God and that they are among the people You watch over and the flock under Your care. Thank You for being an awesome God who keeps Your covenant of unfailing love with those who love You and obey Your commands. Single and married families will sing a new song to You, Lord, for the wonderful deeds You have done.  They shout with joy and worship You with gladness.  They come before You singing with joy. You are the Lord, their Father, who made them and they are Yours!

Faithful Father, our single and married couples are led into all truth as it pertains to the covenant they have with You.  They are never subject to the spirit of fear, but they have power, love, and self-discipline to help them keep their covenant pure. They do only those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life.  Wisdom will enter their hearts and knowledge will fill them with joy. Wise choices will watch over them and understanding will keep them safe. Singles will love You; they will not team up with those who are unbelievers and neither will they partner with those who practice wickedness.  Lord, husbands will live with their wives according to knowledge, and they will cherish them as manifested gifts of God’s favor. And wives will honor their husbands and will adorn themselves as Sarah did, not with material elegance but with quiet and peaceful spirits which You love, Lord God.

February 22: A Prayer for Our Singles

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the single members of our Church Family. Thank You, Lord, for being their strength, refuge and fortress. We thank You for satisfying their mouths with good things so that their youth is renewed like that of the eagle.  You are our God, in whom we trust.  Our souls bless You with all that is within us.  We bless Your Holy Name!  We bless You, and remember all of Your benefits.

Compassionate Father, we confess that the singles in our Church Family love You with all their hearts, souls, strength, and minds and they love their neighbors as they love themselves.  They are filled with Your Holy Spirit, and have the mind of Christ. We declare that our singles can do all things through Christ who strengthens them.  Our singles are planted by the rivers of water, and they will bring forth fruit in their season. Their leaves will not wither and whatever they do will prosper.  In addition to natural bread, we confess that they will continue to live by every Word that proceeds out of Your mouth.  As the just, they live by faith and are over-comers in Jesus’ Name.

Father, today I commit to encouraging the following singles:

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Holy Spirit, direct our singles in the areas of friendship, companionship, ministry, employment, career and finances. In their relationships, bless them with people who are wise, kind, likeminded, patient, and trustworthy. Send them friends and associates who will love and appreciate them.  Touch the hearts of all of our singles to work in a ministry in our Church Family.  Remind them that their needs are met when they attend to the needs of others.  Help them to be skillful and diligent in their workplaces as they apply themselves to honest labor and honorable employment.  For those singles who desire a mate, help them to wait patiently on You.  Holy Spirit, comfort those who experience loneliness and equip us as a Church Family to provide the extended family and support that they may desire.  Heal broken hearts and wounded spirits.  Bless our single parents and provide a stable support system to help them with their children.

Loving Father, forgive our singles for their sins. Forgive them for not trusting You totally with their lives.  Forgive those who have depended on themselves instead of You. Forgive those singles who are anxious and fretful about their singleness and help them to be satisfied with their lives. Forgive those who follow the desires of their flesh instead of the desires of Your Holy Spirit. Father, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed). Holy Spirit, remind our singles of those they need to forgive and help them to be quick to forgive. As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to show you names or faces of people that you may need to forgive.  As He shows you, say aloud, “I forgive name of person(s).”  Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)

Holy Spirit, help our singles not to yield to temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.

Exalted Lord, You are worthy to receive glory, honor and power.  You created all things, and they exist because You created what You pleased.  Yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

A Prayer for Our Children, Youth, Singles, and Married Couples

Scripture Reading:

I Chronicles 29:10-13, John 14:12-26

Reflections of the Heart:

It is the Lord’s good pleasure to bless us.  So, “may the Lord, the God of our ancestors, multiply us a thousand times more and bless us as He has promised!”  Deuteronomy 1:11 (NLT)

Scriptural Prayer:

What mighty praise belongs to You, O God, in Zion.  You are the hope of everyone on earth.  You formed the mountains by Your power and armed Yourself with mighty strength.  You quiet the raging oceans and silence the shouting of the nations.  Those who live at the ends of the earth stand in awe of Your wonders.  From where the sun rises to where it sets, You inspire shouts of joy!  Father, we thank You for the children, youth, singles and married couples of WVUMC.  Thank You for providing and protecting them.   We are thankful to You and we bless Your Name.  You are good, Lord and Your mercy is everlasting.  Your truth endures to all generations.

Father, we confess that our children and youth are a gift and reward from You.  Thank You for making them so wonderfully complex, Your workmanship is marvelous.  We declare that they will honor their fathers and mothers so that all will be well with them and they will live long lives on the earth.  Likewise, our singles will love You with all their hearts, souls, strength, and minds; they will love their neighbors as they love themselves.  We say that our singles will be happy and enjoy themselves.  They will eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from You.  We confess that children, youth, singles and married couples will walk in the fruit of the Spirit and operate in love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  We declare that our wives will submit to their own husbands and our husbands will love their wives just as Christ also love the Church.  Lord, we confess that our children, youth, singles and married couples will prosper and be in health even as their soul prospers.

Father, we pray that our children and youth will live prayerful, godly and holy lives.  Help our parents to model lives that are pleasing to You so that they can train them well.  Please keep our children and youth as the apple of Your eye and hide them under the shadow of Your wings.   Bless them in school and let Your favor surround them like a shield.  Holy Spirit, please help our singles and married couples to live with all godliness and contentment, which is great gain.  Encourage our singles as they gather together for fun, recreation and fellowship.  For those singles who desire a mate, help them to wait patiently on You.  Knit the hearts of our married couples closer together and give them courage to live Your Word in every facet of their marriage.  Father, please restore the broken places in those marriages that are struggling.  Increase Your love and security in those marriages that are doing well.  As iron sharpens iron, help our married couples to encourage and build each other up.  We ask You to bless all of our families at WVUMC.

Holy Spirit, show me how I can be a greater blessing to the members of my Church Family:

Please forgive us for not always meeting the basic needs of our children and youth.  Forgive us for not hugging them, and being too busy to interact and play with them.  Forgive us where we have neglected to build up the self-esteem and self-worth of our youth.  Forgive those singles and married couples who are anxious and fretful.  Forgive them for not trusting You.  Lord, remind us of all to forgive others; and help us to be quick to forgive.

Lead us not into temptation; but, deliver us from the evil one.

Lord, Your Name alone is exalted.   Heaven is Your throne and earth is Your footstool.  Your hands have made both heaven and earth and everything in them are Yours.  You command the morning to appear and cause the dawn to rise in the east. You make daylight spread to the ends of the earth, to bring an end to the night’s wickedness.  The Lord God is Your Name!   In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
