A Prayer for Singles and Married Couples

Scripture Reading:

Psalm 98, Jeremiah 29:11-14

Reflections of the Heart:

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” – Maya Angelou

ONE Prayer:

Exalted Father, thank You for Your great love that continues from generation to generation!  Thank You for the plans and purposes You have for the lives of single and married couples.   With their whole being, they will praise You. They rejoice in knowing that You are God and that they are among the people You watch over and the flock under Your care. Thank You for being an awesome God who keeps Your covenant of unfailing love with those who love You and obey Your commands. Single and married families will sing a new song to You, Lord, for the wonderful deeds You have done.  They shout with joy and worship You with gladness.  They come before You singing with joy. You are the Lord, their Father, who made them and they are Yours!

Faithful Father, our single and married couples are led into all truth as it pertains to the covenant they have with You.  They are never subject to the spirit of fear, but they have power, love, and self-discipline to help them keep their covenant pure. They do only those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life.  Wisdom will enter their hearts and knowledge will fill them with joy. Wise choices will watch over them and understanding will keep them safe. Singles will love You; they will not team up with those who are unbelievers and neither will they partner with those who practice wickedness.  Lord, husbands will live with their wives according to knowledge, and they will cherish them as manifested gifts of God’s favor. And wives will honor their husbands and will adorn themselves as Sarah did, not with material elegance but with quiet and peaceful spirits which You love, Lord God.

Holy Spirit, help single and married couples to enhance their roles and all relationships.  Teach singles how to walk with integrity in this new digital age. Equip them in their relationships with their families, friendships, mentors, and co-workers.  Help them to fulfill Your best plans for their lives. Reveal creatives ways for married couples to love and enjoy each other. Remind them to freely issue mercy and forgiveness quickly without allowing grudges to form.  Anoint and unify them, so that their children are given stability and assurance, and the unsaved are given hope concerning the sanctity of marriage.

Compassionate Father, forgive single or married couples for all acts of sinfulness, including jealousy, outbursts of anger, homosexuality, fornication, envy pride, bitterness, lying, criticism, gossiping, stubbornness, spousal neglect, sexually, emotionally and relationally.   Forgive them all when they become distracted with the cares of this world that they turn from You. Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed).  Holy Spirit, remind all single and married couples of those they need to forgive and help them to be quick to forgive.  As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal names or faces of people that you may need to forgive.  As He reveals them, say “forgive name of person(s).”  Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)

Holy Spirit, help single and married couples not to yield to temptation but deliver them from the evil one.

We worship You, O Great Deliverer! All praise belongs to You. You are the Lord God of Israel who alone does such wonderful things.  We will praise Your Glorious Name forever.  Let the whole earth be filled with Your glory, in Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Reflections of the Heart:

Marriage is not just a relationship; it’s a covenant. You’re not just committed to a person; you’re committed to a purpose − one that God designed from the beginning to bring Him glory. Since it was designed by the Creator Himself, He alone is the best reference for maintaining and enjoying it.

September 29: A Prayer for Wives Who are Desiring To Get Pregnant

Our Father, we thank You for the blessing of children and family. Thank You for each wife who stands in faithful expectancy of a child to hold in her arms. Thank You for Your creative power which is able to open closed wombs and cause them to thrive with new life. We will praise You, Lord, with all our hearts. We will tell of all the marvelous things You have done. We will be filled with joy because of You, and we will sing praises to Your Name, O Most High. May Your glorious Name be praised! May it be exalted above all blessing and praise!

Exalted Father, we believe that just as You were attentive to Hannah’s pleas for help, You hear the cries of every wife who longs to become a mother. We, the Body of Christ, declare that their prayers will not go unanswered, for You promised that You would withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. We confess that these wives will not grow weary and lose hope. In Jesus Name, we declare that bodies of each husband and wife in the Body of Christ are whole and complete, lacking nothing. We confess that they have victory over doubt, fear, and unbelief. We believe that You will connect them with those people who will love and support them as they trust You for children of their own. We decree that they will be parents who are full of wisdom and patience. They will train their children up in the way they should go, and when their children are old they will not depart from it. These expectant couples will do all they can to nurture their marriages so that the atmosphere of their home will be ready to receive children into a loving, peaceful environment.

List the names of any wives you know who desire to have a child and pray for them by name today:

Holy Spirit, we ask that You would prompt the wives who are desiring to get pregnant to disconnect from any negative influences in their lives. Lead them to develop strong, healthy relationships with faith-filled believers who will stand in agreement with them and their husbands. Teach them how to take care of themselves physically, mentally and spiritually. Help them to rest and trust in the Father’s perfect timing. Keep them from becoming envious of others who have already conceived a child. Heal their hearts and deliver them from any guilt or shame they may be feeling. Help their husbands to show compassion and be patient and understanding toward them as they wait to conceive. Once they do conceive, strengthen them against the temptation to worship or overindulge their children. May they always be thankful and give glory to God, keeping Him first in their lives.

Loving Father, forgive the wives who desire to get pregnant of any known or unknown acts of disobedience. Forgive the wives and husbands for any past sins they may have committed. Forgive them for holding unforgiveness in their hearts toward others. Forgive them for giving in to frustration, anger, or outbursts of wrath. Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that You have committed). Holy Spirit, remind the wives and husbands of those they need to forgive and help them to be quick to forgive. As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to show You names or faces of people that You may need to forgive. As He shows You, say aloud, “I forgive name of person(s).” Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in Your soul caused by unforgiveness.)

Holy Spirit, help the wives and husbands who desire to get pregnant to not yield to temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.

Sovereign Lord, You are the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for You? You are mighty, but You do not despise anyone. You are mighty in both power and understanding. You are greater than we can understand. Your years cannot be counted. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

October 5: A Prayer for Troubled Marriages in the Windsor Village Church Family

Holy Father, thank You for the precious covenant of marriage. It is the foundation of Your divine design for marriage and the procreation of all humankind. Thank You for being our refuge and strength; always ready to help in times of trouble. We are grateful to You for sending Your Word to heal troubled marriages in our Church Family. You rule throughout all generations; always keeping Your promises and being gracious in all that You do. We delight in knowing that Your unfailing love toward those of us who fear You is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.  Compassionate Father, thank You for showing Your great love for by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. May Your glory continue forever and may You take pleasure in all that You have made! We will sing to You as long as we live. We will praise You, Our God, to our last breath. Bless Your holy Name!

Omnipotent Father, we decree there is no pain or hurt that the married couples of Windsor Village can ever experience that Your grace cannot cover. Your power works best in their weakness. We decree that every husband and wife within our Church Family obey the Word they hear from those who are anointed and appointed to teach them. The closer they listen, the more understanding they receive. Even though satan, the accuser, may try to oppress them, we confess that they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimonies. They may be pressed on every side, but we declare that they are not crushed. They may be perplexed, but we decree that they are not driven to despair. They may be hunted down, but we declare that they are never abandoned. Whenever they are knocked down, we declare that they are not destroyed. We confess that our married couples are tender-hearted toward one another. They do not act selfishly and are not interested in trying to impress others outside of their marriage. But, they are humble and they think of one another as better than themselves.

Holy Spirit, deliver those married couples within our Church Family who feel defeated and discouraged. Help them to denounce pride and anger. Teach them to love one another as the Father has loved them.  Renew their hope in the power of God’s Word and lead them to seek the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts. Show them how to disagree without being disagreeable and to stay away from foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights.

Beloved Father, forgive the married couples within our Church Family who have lived only to satisfy their own sinful nature. Forgive them for not obeying the voice of the Holy Spirit when they had a chance. Make them aware of how their witness as a married couple affects those around them. Forgive them for not tapping into readily available resources at the Church that can help them transform their relationship. Forgive those of us within our Church Family who have gossiped or slandered those whose marriages we know are struggling. We repent for not giving them the support and love they need from us. Lord, please forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed).  Holy Spirit, remind those with troubled marriages of those they need to forgive and help them be quick to forgive. As for me Holy Spirit, please bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to show You names or faces of people that You may need to forgive. Holy Spirit, help those with troubled marriages not to yield to temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.

Lord, You are King! Let the earth rejoice! Let the farthest coastlands be glad. Dark clouds surround You. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne. Fire spreads ahead of You and burns up all Your foes. Your lightning flashes out across the world. The earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax before You, O Lord. The heavens proclaim Your righteousness; every nation sees Your glory.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Scriptural Prayer:

What mighty praise belongs to You, O God, in Zion.  You are the hope of everyone on earth.  You formed the mountains by Your power and armed Yourself with mighty strength.  You quiet the raging oceans and silence the shouting of the nations.  Those who live at the ends of the earth stand in awe of Your wonders.  From where the sun rises to where it sets, You inspire shouts of joy!  Father, we thank You for the children, youth, singles and married couples of WVUMC.  Thank You for providing and protecting them.   We are thankful to You and we bless Your Name.  You are good, Lord and Your mercy is everlasting.  Your truth endures to all generations.

Father, we confess that our children and youth are a gift and reward from You.  Thank You for making them so wonderfully complex, Your workmanship is marvelous.  We declare that they will honor their fathers and mothers so that all will be well with them and they will live long lives on the earth.  Likewise, our singles will love You with all their hearts, souls, strength, and minds; they will love their neighbors as they love themselves.  We say that our singles will be happy and enjoy themselves.  They will eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from You.  We confess that children, youth, singles and married couples will walk in the fruit of the Spirit and operate in love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  We declare that our wives will submit to their own husbands and our husbands will love their wives just as Christ also love the Church.  Lord, we confess that our children, youth, singles and married couples will prosper and be in health even as their soul prospers.

Father, we pray that our children and youth will live prayerful, godly and holy lives.  Help our parents to model lives that are pleasing to You so that they can train them well.  Please keep our children and youth as the apple of Your eye and hide them under the shadow of Your wings.   Bless them in school and let Your favor surround them like a shield.  Holy Spirit, please help our singles and married couples to live with all godliness and contentment, which is great gain.  Encourage our singles as they gather together for fun, recreation and fellowship.  For those singles who desire a mate, help them to wait patiently on You.  Knit the hearts of our married couples closer together and give them courage to live Your Word in every facet of their marriage.  Father, please restore the broken places in those marriages that are struggling.  Increase Your love and security in those marriages that are doing well.  As iron sharpens iron, help our married couples to encourage and build each other up.  We ask You to bless all of our families at WVUMC.

Holy Spirit, show me how I can be a greater blessing to the members of my Church Family:

Please forgive us for not always meeting the basic needs of our children and youth.  Forgive us for not hugging them, and being too busy to interact and play with them.  Forgive us where we have neglected to build up the self-esteem and self-worth of our youth.  Forgive those singles and married couples who are anxious and fretful.  Forgive them for not trusting You.  Lord, remind us of all to forgive others; and help us to be quick to forgive.

Lead us not into temptation; but, deliver us from the evil one.

Lord, Your Name alone is exalted.   Heaven is Your throne and earth is Your footstool.  Your hands have made both heaven and earth and everything in them are Yours.  You command the morning to appear and cause the dawn to rise in the east. You make daylight spread to the ends of the earth, to bring an end to the night’s wickedness.  The Lord God is Your Name!   In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
