September 13: A Prayer for People Overcoming the Death of a Loved One

All praise to You, God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! You are our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. We will sing to You as long as we live. We will praise You to our last breath! Father, we give thanks to You and proclaim Your greatness. The whole world shall know what You have done. We will sing Your praises to You. We will tell everyone of Your wonderful deeds. We thank You, Father, for sending us Your Son, for in Him we have great hope.  Jesus is the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in Him will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in Him and believes in Him will never die! We are so grateful that when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled: “Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” Thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking on human form so that You can understand what we experience.  Thank You for leaving us with a gift – Your peace of mind and heart. We thank You, Father, for the life of our loved one(s) who has gone on to be with You. Thank You for their time on earth and the impact they had on our lives. We are thankful to You and we bless Your Name.

Merciful Father, so why are we discouraged? Why are our hearts so sad? We will put our hope in You, God! We will praise You again – our Savior and our God! Abba, Father, You saw Your one and only Son, whom You love, die on the cross. So You must understand why we mortals have such a difficult time overcoming the death of a loved one. Father, we
do trust Your Word. We proclaim that our family and friends who have experienced the death of a loved one will not be afraid, for You are with them; not be discouraged, for You are their God. Your Word says that You will strengthen them and help them. You will hold them up with Your victorious right hand. Your Name, Lord, is a strong fortress; the godly
run to You and are safe. We declare that it is by Your great mercy that we have been born again, because You raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance – an inheritance that is kept in heaven for us, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. So we decree that bereavement will last only for a short time and joy will replace sorrow.

Holy Spirit, when we see our brother or sister mourning the loss of a loved one, help us to be compassionate but also to edify him or her with God’s Word of hope and peace. Bring to our remembrance Scriptures which will help to bring solace to help our brother or sister know what will happen to the believers who have died. As we do this, we trust that You will help them so they will not grieve like people who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with Him the believers who have died.  Help us to encourage each other with these words. Remind us to care for the physical needs of families in mourning, with food, transportation, child care or any other material thing that may be needed. Help us to be patient and to not be insensitive to those in pain. Holy Spirit, when we are grieving as well, comfort us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others.

Holy Spirit, help me to become more sensitive to the needs of those around me who are in mourning and show me how I can be an encouragement to them:

Gracious Father, when death comes to those we love, we will not tear our clothing in our grief, but will tear our hearts instead. We will return to You, our God, for You are merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. You are eager to relent and not punish. When we are grieving, Father, forgive us for concentrating on what we see with our eyes rather than what we believe in our hearts. When others are grieving, forgive us for being impatient as time goes on after a death. Forgive us when we utter unkind words, making light of someone else’s pain at the loss of a loved one. Holy Spirit, chasten us if we are not taking care of the physical or emotional needs of a person who has suffered loss. Father, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed.) Holy Spirit, remind those who are overcoming the death of a loved one of those they need to forgive and help them to be quick to forgive. As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to show you names or faces of people that you may need to forgive. As He shows you, say aloud, “I forgive name of person(s).” Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)

Holy Spirit, help us all not to yield to temptation; but deliver us from the evil one.

Almighty God, the heavens proclaim Your glory! The skies display Your craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night, they make You known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. You are awesome in Your sanctuary, Lord God.  We pray in the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen!

August 5: A Prayer for Hope and Healing in America

Our Father, we thank You for Your loving care for the citizens of our nation during this time of grief and despair. Thank You, Father, for blessing those who trust in You, who have made You their hope and confidence. Thank You for loving us so much that You sent Your Son, Jesus Christ to redeem us from a life of despair and hopelessness. Gracious Father, we praise You with all of our hearts.  You merely spoke and the heavens were created. You breathed the word and all of the stars were born.  Your plans stand firm forever and Your intentions can never be shaken.  You are an awesome God!

Loving Father, our country is experiencing the aftermath of the tragic shootings in Baton Rouge, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and Dallas.  Lives have been destroyed. Today, we cry out for the families of the people who have died and those who have been injured.  We declare that You, alone, are their refuge and place of safety.  You are their God and they can trust in You. Lord, Your Name is a strong fortress and those who run to You will find spiritual, emotional, and psychological healing.  We confess that even though the families of the victims and those wounded may feel pressure on every side by this tragedy, but they will not be crushed and broken. They may feel perplexed, but they will not give up and quit. They may feel like life is about to run them over, but they will not be abandoned by You. We recognize that their lives have been knocked down by this crime, but we decree that they will get up and keep going.  In Jesus’ Name, we cancel the assignments of the spirits of terrorism, racism, anger, violence, murder and rage.  As Kingdom citizens, we render these spirits powerless. We declare that no weapon formed against the citizens of our nation will succeed, and we silence every voice that rises against us all.

List the names of at least 3 people who died through senseless shootings in America.  Include their families in this prayer: ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Holy Spirit, help the families of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, and the five Dallas police officers to heal.  Help them to get through the upcoming days, weeks, months, and years.  Let Your love and presence saturate their hearts, souls and spirits.  Please send people who will love, support, and comfort them.  God, our Healer, please provide healing and speedy recovery to the Dallas officers who are in the hospital or recovering at home.  Heal the wounds that have been inflicted in their souls.  Holy Spirit, comfort all citizens of America.  Guide parents of every ethnicity on how to talk with their children in a way that will not instill hatred, fear, anger, and unforgiveness.  Let Your Truth prevail over prejudice, bias, tradition, and misunderstanding.

Forgiving Father, forgive our nation for all acts of racism, injustice, and insensitivity.  Forgive those who know the truth, but remain silent.  Father, please have mercy on our country.  Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed).  Holy Spirit, remind us of all those we need to forgive and help us to be quick to forgive.

Holy Spirit, help us all to not yield to temptation; but deliver us from the evil one.

Magnificent Lord, when You spoke, the world began! It appeared at Your command. You look down from heaven and see the whole human race. From Your throne, You observe all who live on the earth. O Lord, our Lord, Your majestic Name fills the earth!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

We will praise You again – our Savior and our God!  Father, we trust Your Word.  We declare that our family and friends who have experienced the death of a loved one will not be afraid, for You are with them; they will not be discouraged, for You are their God. Your Word says that You will strengthen them and help them. You will hold them up with Your victorious right hand. Your Name, Lord, is a strong fortress; the Godly run to You and are safe. We declare that it is by Your great mercy that we have been born again, because You raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now, we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance – an inheritance that is kept in heaven for us, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.  So, we decree that bereavement will last only for a short time and joy will replace sorrow.

Holy Spirit, when we see our brother or sister mourning the death of a loved one, help us to be compassionate, but also to edify him or her with God’s Word of hope and peace. Bring scriptures to our remembrance that will help to bring solace to help our brother or sister.  As we do this, we trust that You will help them so they will not grieve like people who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with Him the believers who have died. Remind us to care for the physical needs of families in mourning, with food, transportation, child care or any other material things that may be needed.

Gracious Father, when we are grieving, forgive us for concentrating on what we see with our eyes rather than what we believe in our hearts. When others are grieving, forgive us for being impatient as time goes on after a death. Forgive us when we utter unkind words, making light of someone else’s pain at the death of a loved one. Holy Spirit, chasten us if we are not taking care of the physical or emotional needs of a person who has suffered loss. Father, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed).  Holy Spirit, remind those who are overcoming the death of a loved one of those they need to forgive and help them to be quick to forgive.

Holy Spirit, help us all to not yield to temptation; but deliver us from the evil one.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

A Prayer for the Victims of Natural Disasters

A Prayer for the Victims of Natural Disasters

Scripture Reading:

Psalm 19, James 2

Reflections of the Heart:

The Lord is our light and our salvation, so why should we fear?  The Lord protects us from danger, so why should we tremble?  It is assuring to know that our lives are hidden in the Lord!

Scriptural Prayer:

Father, there is none like You.  You are great and Your Name is great in might.  Who would not fear You, O King of the nations, for this is Your rightful due.  Among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like You.  You are the true and living God and the everlasting King.  The earth trembles at Your wrath and the nations are not able to endure Your indignation.  Lord, we thank You for demonstrating Your loving kindness and tender mercies towards humanity.  Thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to redeem humankind from the power of the evil one.  Thank You for sending relief to the persons who have been affected by the natural disasters.  Lord, even though there are tragedies, yet You are still good and Your mercy endures forever.

Father, by using the authority given to us, we speak to the fires in California and Colorado and to the flooding in Iowa and we command them to cease.  We command the ground and vegetation to be dampened by rain, in the Midwestern United States.  We speak to the natural processes, such as hurricanes, weather systems, and snowmelt, which cause flooding and we command that they align with the perfect will of God.  Our nation has been devastated by the fires and flooding, and many families have been affected.  Lord, it is Your will for us to pray for those who are suffering.  We pray because You want us to weep with those who weep.  We pray for the victims of these natural disasters in our nation.  Lord, it is Your desire that all of humankind call on Your Name and worship You.  You do not want any person to live without You.  Like a mother hen, You desire to protect and care for Your creation, therefore, we expect relief for the persons who are in need.  Lord, we believe that You will regard and not despise the prayers of the destitute.  Lord, we confess that we will continue to pray for these persons and help them with our giving when there is a need to be met, for faith without works is dead.

Today, using the authority that Jesus Christ has given you, go outside and speak specifically to the weather in  California, Colorado and Iowa  and command the fires and flooding to cease:

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

Father, please extend Your mercy and grace to the victims of these natural disasters.  Comfort these persons and protect them.  Please continue to provide food, clothing, shelter and employment for them.  Continue to touch the heart of our nation and world to give.  Holy Spirit, touch the hearts of local, state, and federal government officials to properly rebuild the levees, dams and drainage systems within the communities of our nation.  Protect the firefighters, public service workers and volunteers who are serving and let Your everlasting love be felt overwhelmingly by the people.  Lord, help the body of Christ to demonstrate Jesus’ love through acts of giving and compassion.  Lord, we ask You to send Your laborers to share Your Gospel and to gather Your harvest.

Father, forgive us for being insensitive to the needs of those persons who have been affected by these natural disasters.  Forgive those persons who do not acknowledge You as the only true and living God. Forgive them for all acts of sinfulness.  Lord, help them to forgive.  Lord, please have mercy!

Lord, lead them not to temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.

Lord, You are the King of glory.  You are the Lord, strong and mighty.  You are the Lord, invincible in battle.  The earth is Yours and everything in it.  The world and all its people belong to You.  You are worthy, Lord our God, to receive glory, and honor and power.  You created all things, and they exist because You created what You pleased.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
