A Back to School Prayer for Students
Psalm 111, Daniel 1
Reflections of the Heart:
A new school year brings with it new opportunities to grow, learn and develop new relationships. We expect great and wonderful things this school year for the students and educators of our public and private schools.
We exalt You, our God and King and praise Your Name forever and ever. We will praise You every day and forever. Lord You are great and most worthy of praise; no one can measure Your greatness. Each generation will tell its children of Your mighty acts and proclaim Your power. Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains and Your justice like the ocean depths. As a Church Family, we come clapping our hands and shouting to You with joyful praise. You are the Lord Most High and You are awesome! You are the great King of all the earth. Father, we praise and thank You for our students and teachers. Thank You for each school and school district. Thank You for surrounding each student with favor like a shield.
Father, we confess that like Jesus, our students will grow in wisdom, stature and favor with You and all people. We declare that they will focus on their studies during the school term and not grow distracted or complacent. We proclaim that each student will work willingly in their classes as though they were working for You. Lord, we declare that no evil will conquer them; nor will any plague come near their homes, for You will order Your angels to protect them wherever they go. We proclaim that the wisdom of God will enter and rule in their hearts. We confess that they will respect and heed to the instruction of their parents, teachers and school administrators. We declare that the wise instruction of the teachers will be like a life-giving fountain to each student. We confess that each parent will direct their children onto the right path, and when they are older they will not leave it. We proclaim that our students will have good success because they will meditate daily and obey Your Word. We declare that our students will give their bodies to God because of all He has done for them. We say that they will be living and holy sacrifices—the kind God will find acceptable. We confess that they will not defile themselves with the ways of the world through sex, lies, stealing, gang violence, the use of drugs and other worldly things. We proclaim that our students will let God transform them into new people by changing the way they think.
Holy Spirit, I will pray for the following students in my family and community:
Holy Spirit, give each student an excellent spirit, like Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego. Bless our teachers for their service to the Houston community. Help them to remain committed to their educational “calling.” Keep them safe in their classrooms and lead and guide them as they teach. Grant each teacher wisdom, creativity, and grace to teach each child according to their needs, level of intelligence, and learning capabilities. Increase the wisdom and understanding of each parent on how to partner with the schools to achieve success in their student’s education. Bless the homes of each student to be a place of love, peace and support. We ask You to increase the capacity of the students to learn, comprehend and excel in all areas of their education including: reading, mathematics, sciences, arts, and all required testing. During their extracurricular activities please protect them from injury. We pray for godly friends and relationships for our students. Lord, cause Your joy to be their strength.
Father, forgive us for being negligent in teaching our students to first reverence You which is the foundation of true knowledge. Forgive us for sacrificing our students to excessive television, video games, music and to the ways and customs of the world. Forgive us for devaluing the worth of teachers and education. Lord, remind us of those we need to forgive; and help us to be quick to forgive.
Lead our students not into temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.
Lord, You are worthy to receive glory, honor and power. You created all things, and they exist because You created what You pleased. Yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
